Not Beirut, Lebanon, of course. Beirut the band will be in town at the end of May, and of course I leaped to buy tickets as soon as they went on sale today. Well, actually I was at work when they went on sale, but I bought them as soon as I got home. I am dragging Andrew along with me, as I did when Patrick was in town. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed himself at that one, but frankly I was too busy screaming my head off and flying around in the clouds to really notice. Now, less than three months to Beirut!!
At first I was confused because it was post marked from France, and I didn't recognize the handwriting. I had a thrilling couple of seconds as I speculated about who it could be from (!!!), then I opened it and remembered that oh yeah I had ordered this Beirut DVD last week. It's really good, basically the entire Flying Club Cup album performed by Zach Condon and his band as they roam around Brooklyn and spontaneously burst into song in various places. This album has really grown on me, and I definitely recommend it to all the Patrick fans out there.
..the New Year, that is. I'm sitting in my cafe right now and the windows are all fogged and the rain is blowing around in sheets outside. At least New Year's Eve was dry and not too cold, since taking Muni at 2am with a busload of drunken idiots would have been unbearable in the rain. And no, I was not more tolerant of drunk people because I was also drunk. I had passed through my happy mood into my I Sleep Now mood. I have to say, though, that Muni did a good job of providing lots of free public transportation. I was over at Ian's in the Castro and I managed to make it home in less than an hour. I had been invited to a party over by City College, and I'm SOOO glad I didn't go... on public transportation that might as well be in another time zone. Anyway. I'm glad I did something this year, rather than being antisocial and regretting it later like last year. And now the excitement is over and things are pretty much back to normal. Wow.
And to make this post a little more interesting, how about some music I've bought recently?
I was smitten with these guys after I stumbled on their "Failsafe" cover on YouTube (below):
One last thing: Speaking of Patrick, I was in a well known chain clothing store downtown last week (hint: rhymes with "crap") and all of a sudden I heard a very loud alarm-type beeping noise over the speakers. If I wasn't so cool I might have thought a fire alarm was going off, but I immediately recognized the song "(Let's Go) Get Lost"!!! I was so excited to hear Patrick in such a mainstream store, it really seems to signal that he's taking off in the US. And that song is a perfect introduction for the uninitiated, despite the disarming first couple of seconds...
