Tiger hunting in North Beach
All I wanted to do tonight was try a new soup recipe. And yet somehow I found myself wandering the streets with Andrew, searching for the Tatiana the tiger memorial statue, which was put up on christmas day on the Greenwich Steps. It started out as a casual Tatiana conversation at Quetzal, and soon enough we decided we had better go check out this statue immediately. For some reason we decided to walk there from my apartment, despite the fact that there are about ten hills and fifty million staircases along the way... oh well, now I don't feel so bad about taking the bus to my dad's earlier.
So this is where we were going:
You'll have to believe me about the views, as my camera didn't pick them up so well. Anyway, after wandering lost in the dark for a while at the top of Telegraph Hill and almost being run over a few times, we finally found the Greenwich Steps. We had to go up and down them a few times to find Tatiana (hey, it was dark), but we succeeded in the end:
After the long walk and search, I was determined to come away with a more personalized Tatiana memento, and although it took a treacherous climb up a muddy hill and crawling through low tree branches in near total darkness, it was totally worth it:
Andrew preferred to keep a safe distance, which was probably smart as we could hear something rustling in the bushes above the statue. We then walked back, Andrew to the metro station and I back home. And, I even had time to make my soup:
